In December 2017, the largest solar farm of South Carolina started its operations in the Jasper County. Solvay contributed to this project by committing, in the financing phase, to purchase 100% of the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) produced by the solar farm over the course of the next 15 years.
The biggest solar farm in South Carolina
With a 900-acre surface, an area equivalent to 500 football (soccer) fields, the Jasper solar farm is the biggest of its kind in South Carolina. Its capacity is about 70 MW, for an expected production of 164 000 MWh: enough power to supply 15,000 American households. Such production will allow the offsetting of approximately 80,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
